Jess
Jess VanSchyndel is a dedicated dog trainer and competitor with over a decade of professional experience. She is extremely passionate about canine behaviour, performance, and the human-dog relationship. Her approach to training is centered around understanding the individual dog—believing strongly in “working the dog in front of you” and adapting methods to build clarity, confidence, and trust.
Jess has continually pursued education and growth within the industry. She has worked with and learned from high-level trainers from around the world through both in-person and online opportunities, and has completed specialized courses in areas including reactivity, resource guarding, cooperative care, and fear-free training approaches. Her background also includes work in animal boarding facilities and fostering dogs, giving her a well-rounded understanding of dogs across a wide range of temperaments and backgrounds.
In the dog sport world, Jess has found her greatest passion and success in dog agility. She competes at an international level, with multiple podium finishes and top 10 rankings across Canada and North America. Most recently, she was named as a reserve for the Agility World Championships with Team Canada.
Beyond agility, Jess actively trains and competes in a variety of dog sports including scent, disc, herding, barn hunt, dock diving, and trick training. She also has a strong interest in canine fitness, recognizing its critical role in both performance and longevity.
Above all, Jess is passionate about helping dogs feel confident in making choices, strengthening the bond between dog and handler, and thinking outside the box to help each team succeed. Her training emphasizes clear communication, mutual understanding, and creating a positive, empowering experience for both ends of the leash.
